Why visit Manasbal Lake

Manasbal is known for its unusually clear water and for the lotus flowers that carpet its edges in summer. Surrounded by lush greenery and hills, it’s a favourite spot for birdwatchers, photographers and anyone who simply wants to sit by the water. At about 13 metres, it is also one of the deepest lakes in the valley.

Things to do at Manasbal Lake

  • Take a shikara ride. Drift slowly across the lake and along the lotus beds. In July and August, ask your boatman to take you into the lotus.
  • Birdwatching. The lake and its reed beds attract a variety of water birds. Bring binoculars.
  • Photography. Early morning, when the water is still and the light is soft, is the best time.
  • Walk the lakeshore. A path runs along the shore near Manasbal Park on the eastern bank.
  • Picnic by the shore. Ask us to pack snacks and a flask of kahwa for the trip. See our kahwa and noon chai guide.
